‘Firefly: Still Flying’ Giveaway

Posted: May 18, 2010 in contests & giveaways, firefly

There once was a show called Firefly. It had a small, but passionate fanbase. To this day, they keep it flying. That’s the only way I can explain the release of Firefly: Still Flying from Titan Books seven years after the show’s end. It’s a testament to the show’s staying power and those who loved it and keep its spirit going.

The companion book Still Flying is something any hardcore fan of the series will love. It’s a love letter to the series and its fans, full of behind the scenes anecdotes, never before published photos (including one particularly touching photo of the last scene ever filmed for the series), storyboards, detailed descriptions and photos of the show’s props, and more. You’ll learn about the practical joke that became legend, what Alan Tudyk thought when he found out Gina Torres would be playing his wife and what it says on page 108 of Book’s bible.

The book also feature four new original stories written by the show’s writers:

  • Fun With Dick and Jayne, an illustrated story by Ben Edlund (“Trash,” “Jaynestown,” now working on Supernatural). It’s just the kind of twisted funny we’ve come to expect from Edlund.
  • What Holds Us Down by Jane Espenson (“Shindig,” now working on Caprica). A touching story featuring Kaylee and Wash.
  • Crystal by Brett Matthews (“Heart of Gold”). River being, well, River with the other characters.
  • Take the Sky by Jose Molina (“Trash,” “Ariel,” now working on Castle). A glimpse of the future!

To celebrate the book’s release on May 25, Staying In is giving away a copy of Still Flying!

  1. Irina says:

My favorite episode is “Objects in Space” because Summer Glau made me believe she was Firefly.

  2. Paige Madison says:

Out of Gas is my favorite episode because that’s when I felt the series crossed from good to great. The fuzzy, dreamy flashbacks were just simply beautiful. It just was a very meaningful episode to me.

  3. Kristal says:

My favorite episode is Out of Gas. It was a great story told in 3 different times – distant past when the original crew met, the recent past when the ship broke, and then the present when Mal is left to go down with this ship. Extremely well written, great story telling, and well acted by Nathan Fillion and co.

  4. Tiffany Vogt says:

My favorite is “Our Mrs. Reynolds” as it was HYSTERICAL watching Malcolm Reynolds try to figure out what to do with his “wife” and then how she sand-bagged them all. It still cracks me up!

  5. Cindy says:

“Trash” is the best Firefly episode, hands down. The return of YoSaffBridg makes for an exciting plot with a nod to one of my other favorite episodes, “Our Mrs. Reynolds,” and the constant fight for control between her and Mal is both interesting and funny. Not to mention the fact that Inara has one of her best moments in the show and Mal ends up…well, nekkid in the desert.

  7. Blake says:

“Serenity” (the pilot as opposed to the movie) does a fantastic job of world-building, and assembling and introducing the cast. Buffy didn’t really find its stride until S2, I don’t know if Firefly could’ve hit the ground running as it did without the perfect pilot. It’s all the more remarkable for the morons at Fox NOT SHOWING IT FIRST.

  8. Bradley Baker says:

    Shindig.

Gotta love anything that involves dueling.

  9. Rob says:

My favorite episode has to be Our Mrs. Reynolds. First of all, Christina Hendricks is gorgeous. But more importantly, it is the funniest episode of Firefly – ‘good bible’……’good myth’

    Still gets me every time!

  10. Julie says:

I would also have to say “Out of Gas.” From beginning to end, it gave me goosebumps and kept me captivated.

  11. Becky says:

My favorite episode has got to be “War Stories.” I love the interaction between Mal and Wash — and to see how protective Zoe was of Wash!

  12. Laura DeLuca says:

Our Mrs. Reynolds because I really wanted to know it she was Mal’s wife
